A meeting place created by the industry – for the industry
Why should you exhibit at Train Rail?
Train & is the largest trade fair for the Nordic rail industry. This makes the fair an obvious meeting place for everyone who wants to make contacts, new business, network and take part in the many initiatives that are taken to strengthen the competitiveness of the Nordic railways. Train & Rail was organized for the first time in the spring of 2023 and received over 3000 visitors and 150 exhibitors. It will be back in May 2025!
Visitors will be able to see the latest products, services and solutions such as Rail Vehicles for Freight and Passenger Traffic, Rail Transport for Public, Regional, Long Distance and International Traffic, Signaling/Traffic Management Systems, Ticketing Systems and much more.
Welcome to meet your customers again and present the latest news!
Comments from exhibitors and visitors

Challenges facing the rail industry

Societal benefits and energy efficiency
The Swedish way of calculating the social benefit of time savings in traffic does not favor the energy-efficient railway. Change requires the Swedish Transport Administration to evaluate new models for calculating social benefits, and for parts of their mission to be vision-driven instead of forecast-driven.

Lack of capacity
The tracks are crowded. Some of the capacity shortage can be eliminated, for example with high-speed rail, as the existing main lines can be used for freight and local traffic. But digitalization and more modern traffic planning would also make a big difference. We need to do everything we can to increase capacity.

The maintenance debt
We need to pay off the maintenance debt on the railways. Maintenance is a cheap investment and an environmentally friendly way to increase capacity. The Swedish Transport Administration has already started to prioritize maintenance of worn infrastructure, but more needs to be done. This will create a more robust railway with increased capacity and higher punctuality.

Digitize more
Sensors must be installed on vehicles and infrastructure and data managed for a condition-based and predictive maintenance system, for fewer downed overhead lines and track breaks. Safety is key, we need to digitize while facing current and future threats – without hindering innovation.

ERTMS
One of the most important investments for the future is a smarter signaling system. The EU-wide ERTMS signalling system is driving digitalization in railways and is a prerequisite for high-speed railways and future automation. It must be introduced quickly, but also financed in the same way as in other countries. Photographer: Kasper Dudzik.

A new generation of railway workers
Another major challenge facing the rail industry is skills supply. Today, many companies are facing a generational shift of large parts of their workforce. Valuable skills need to be secured so that they do not disappear when engineers, mechanics and other core resources retire.

Public procurement
The Swedish Transport Administration must become better at procuring on terms other than price. More innovation procurements and other types of procurements that reward new technology and new solutions are needed, not least to further strengthen the role of the railways in Sweden’s necessary climate transition.

Alternative financing
We must dare to propose projects that are financed in ways other than the regular budget. Borrow money, create separate revenue streams or let private actors build and own infrastructure. But at the same time, think about security, which actors and countries do we want to give visibility to infrastructure. But at the same time, think about security, which actors and countries do we want to give transparency to our infrastructure.
