Electric railway systems face several challenges, including voltage sags, power peaks, and stability issues caused by fluctuating energy demands. Europe’s Rail project Rail4Earth has therefore developed an advanced energy storage solution to address the aforementioned challenges in the electricity system and to obtain more stable and efficient electricity in the railway system. This talk will present our methods and results in Swedish cases, consisting of converter interface and control for energy storage as well as energy management for the whole system.
