Persontrafik – bringing together Sweden’s regional rail industry

Why rail exhibitors should take part in Persontrafik

Persontrafik brings together key representatives from Sweden’s Regional Public Transport Authorities, which are responsible for the majority of rail journeys in Sweden and play a crucial role in shaping the industry’s future.
The trade fair gives suppliers direct access to decision-makers responsible for regional rail services with high passenger volumes, growing investment and upcoming procurement opportunities.

For companies and organisations in the rail industry, Persontrafik offers a unique opportunity to reach the right audience. The trade fair brings together leading decision-makers and experts from Sweden’s Regional Public Transport Authorities (RKM) – the organisations that play a key role in shaping the future of rail travel in Sweden.

“Persontrafik offers a unique opportunity to meet the key stakeholders responsible for decisions on investment, procurement and the development of public transport,” says Johan Wadman, CEO of Svensk Kollektivtrafik.

It may come as a surprise that over 90% of all train journeys in Sweden take place on publicly organised and funded regional rail services. This means that Sweden’s Regional Public Transport Authorities (RKM) play a crucial role in the development of the rail industry.

Sweden’s Regional Public Transport Authorities (RKM) are currently responsible for twelve local and regional rail networks across the country: Norrtåg, X-Tåg, Tåg i Bergslagen, SL Pendeltåg, Mälartåg, Östgötapendeln, Värmlandstrafik, Vänertåg, Västtågen, Krösatågen, Öresundståg and Pågatågen. Together, these networks form the backbone of Sweden’s regional public transport system.

Around 230 million journeys are made on these networks each year, and passenger numbers have more than doubled since the turn of the millennium. This growth highlights the increasingly important role of regional rail services in a sustainable transport system.

These investments are made by Sweden’s regional authorities, which own the trains either directly or through AB Transitio. The fleet currently comprises approximately 640 rail vehicles.

Significant investment is planned for the years ahead. Over the next 10–15 years, plans are in place to replace older trains and expand the fleet to meet continued growth in passenger demand.

For suppliers and other companies in the rail industry, this represents a significant market opportunity. Attending Persontrafik provides direct access to the organisations driving this development.
